Biscuit Cutter
The biscuit cutter is really just a kitchen tool created for cutting biscuits from dough. When you use a biscuit cutter you can be sure that your biscuits are all the same size and shape, and that is very important for many different reasons. Most kitchen supply stores and department stores will sell the biscuit cutter, and you will often find them in sets of several different sizes or similar shapes. You can also special order them through different specialty companies.
Normally, the biscuit cutter is made of metal, as the metal can be changed or molded into a wanted shape quickly and easily and the sharper edge of the a metal biscuit cutter will easily cut through the biscuit dough. Some of the biscuit cutters are made from plastics, which is another fairly easily moldable material. If needed, a baker can even use a small class or even wine glass as a biscuit cutter too. Should you have to something other than an actual biscuit cutter as a biscuit cutter then you will want to make sure that the glass or other item does not have a tapered shape to it.
The normal shape of a biscuit is the round, however, biscuit cutters may be found come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Bakers may make your biscuit into a heart shape, a square, a rectangle, a dinosaur, a flower, or any other such patterns by using a biscuit cutter. Keep in mind though that a biscuit cutter is not a cookie cutter and it will not have the small details but it will have the big bold basic shape.
Using the biscuit cutter is very important to do for many different reasons. The obvious reason is consistency. Keeping all of the biscuit’s the same size and shape will mean that they will all cook the same and have the same appearance. You wont have biscuits that are cooking faster than other on the same sheet and burning and if you know the time that your biscuits will bake in then there is no guessing games. You just simply pull them out when they are ready. If your not using a biscuit cutter then you could pull them out too early or not soon enough.
To make the most of your biscuit cutter you should roll out your biscuit dough on to a lightly floured area. Then dip your biscuit cutter into the flour so that the dough doesn’t stick to it and start cutting biscuits out of the dough in the corner of the rolled out dough. Once you have cut as many biscuits that you can out of the dough then you can ball up the remaining dough and roll it out and cut more biscuits out of that and continue to do so until you have used as much of the dough as possible.
